Venezuela demands UN Security Council meeting over "US aggression"
Venezuela has sent a letter to the United Nations Security Council asking for a meeting on what Caracas calls the «ongoing aggression by the United States» against the country. This was reported by The Public with reference to Reuters.
The UN diplomat confirmed this information to Reuters, noting that the meeting is likely to take place on Tuesday next week.
Venezuelan authorities called the US actions a manifestation of aggression and appealed to the UN Security Council to consider the situation at the highest international level. The meeting is expected to give Caracas an opportunity to voice its position on the blockade and other US steps, which, according to them, threaten the country's economic security.
Trump's decision to impose the blockade and similar measures has prompted a broad reaction in the international arena and amid the deterioration of relations between Washington and Caracas, which has been going on for several months now.
