Vyacheslav Belsky, the MP who helped draft the Constitution, has died
The Verkhovna Rada’s press service has announced the death of Vyacheslav Belsky.
Vyacheslav Belsky, a former Member of the Ukrainian Parliament of the 2nd convocation, has died. The Verkhovna Rada noted that he was among the parliamentarians who supported the adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine.
Parliament emphasised that, through this vote, Belsky had contributed to the establishment of Ukrainian statehood. The Verkhovna Rada also expressed its condolences to his family, loved ones, friends and colleagues.
What is known about Vyacheslav Belsky
According to the Verkhovna Rada’s official website, Vyacheslav Belsky was a Member of the Ukrainian Parliament of the 2nd convocation from 11 May 1994 to 12 May 1998. He was elected from the Vasylivka constituency No. 189 in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In parliament, Belsky served on the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agrarian Policy, Land Resources and Rural Social Development.
At the time of his election, he was the chairman of the ‘Ukraine’ collective farm in the Vasylivka district of Zaporizhzhia Oblast. The Verkhovna Rada’s reference also states that Belsky held a higher education qualification and was a professional agronomist.
According to the parliamentary record, at the time of the election he was a member of the Communist Party of Ukraine. In the Verkhovna Rada, he was a member of the faction or group “Communists of Ukraine for Social Justice and People’s Power”.
Vyacheslav Belsky was born on 4 May 1954. He was a new MP in the Verkhovna Rada and had not previously been elected to parliament.
