60,000 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat have been shipped from the occupied port of Mariupol
This has been reported by Mariupol City Council on its Telegram channel.
The port as a hub for looting and logistics
According to sources, eight ships loaded with grain were recorded as having departed during the specified period. Today, the Mariupol seaport is effectively integrated into the Russian Federation’s military logistics and is being used as the main hub for the export of grain, metal products and other cargo from the temporarily occupied territories.
In parallel with the operation of the existing infrastructure, the Russian side is developing a ‘development strategy’ for the port with a planning horizon extending to 2040. The key objective of this programme is the technical modernisation of the quays and navigation facilities. In particular, the occupiers have announced their intention to increase the permissible cargo capacity of vessels to 25,000 tonnes, whereas the port’s current capacity is limited to vessels with a deadweight of between 3,000 and 10,000 tonnes.
In this way, the invaders plan to turn Mariupol into a key logistics hub to ensure the long-term export of resources from the occupied Azov region.
