From the hell of Kharkiv to a life of luxury in Britain: the incredible rescue of a white tiger
This is according to the BBC.
Alex’s story began amidst the horrors of war. In June 2024, volunteers stumbled upon him by chance in an abandoned garden near Kharkiv. The tiger was in a critical condition: dehydrated, exhausted and infested with parasites. As it turned out, he was born during the full-scale invasion and had spent all that time under fire in a besieged area, with virtually no chance of survival.
Alex is now settling in at Lincolnshire Wildlife Park. Park director Steve Nichols notes that despite his ‘grumpy’ nature following his ordeal, the tiger is already enjoying the peace and quiet and the best diet. Only one in ten thousand tigers has this colouring, so Alex’s rescue has been a real event for European zoologists. Staff at the sanctuary say the predator looks genuinely grateful for his rescue.
For now, Alex is in quarantine, but the park is already preparing live streams on social media so the world can follow his recovery. In the future, they plan to introduce him to a local tigress named Sajiba. Alex’s journey from the ruins of the Kharkiv region to British luxury has become a symbol of hope, reminding us that life is worth fighting for even in the darkest of times.
