Zelenskyy calls on the US to increase pressure on Russia in case of failure of peace deal
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that if Russia refuses to agree to the terms of the cessation of hostilities developed during the negotiations between Ukraine, the United States and Europe, Washington should move to more serious pressure on Moscow. He said this after talks in Berlin on 15 December.
According to the President, if the Kremlin rejects diplomatic solutions, it will mean the actual failure of all efforts to end the war. Zelenskyy noted that in this case, the logical step on the part of the United States would be to strengthen sanctions against Russia and increase military support for Ukraine.
The President stressed that if the United States is ready to provide Ukraine with strong security guarantees in case of violation of the agreements, then Russia's refusal to make peace is no different in terms of consequences. In such a situation, he believes that Ukraine has the right to count on at least a part of these guarantees right now.
Zelenskyy said that modern air defence systems and long-range weapons that will allow for more effective deterrence of aggression remain among the key needs. He stressed that this would be a fair request from both Ukraine and individual European leaders.
