Zelenskyy assessed the situation in Russia and made a prediction regarding a future agreement
Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on Telegram.
The President said that he had heard reports from Ukrainian intelligence regarding the situation within Russia and documents being sent to the Russian leadership. According to Zelenskyy, even taking into account the fact that Putin may be receiving incomplete or embellished information, these materials demonstrate trends that are negative for the Kremlin.
What intelligence reports say about the mood in Russia
Zelenskyy stated that, according to the data received, Russians’ dissatisfaction with Putin may continue to grow. He said that the Kremlin already accepts that this trend cannot be quickly halted before September, when parliamentary elections are due to take place in Russia. The Ukrainian side has also noted a decline in support for Russia’s ruling party and a rise in protest sentiment across Russian regions. The President believes that the actual situation could become even more difficult for the Kremlin due to events in the coming months.
Zelenskyy spoke about negotiations with Russia
The Head of State emphasised that Ukraine has proposed options for ending the war and is ready to discuss a just peace. At the same time, he said, Moscow’s response so far has been limited to statements about continuing hostilities. Zelenskyy noted that if trends within Russia do not change, future agreements to end the war may have to be concluded with a different representative of the Russian Federation.
“Over time, this may mean that an agreement will have to be concluded with someone else from Russia — someone who does not turn a blind eye to reality,” the president said.
