The Russian Black Sea Fleet may be relocated from Sevastopol to Novorossiysk
This was reported by the ‘ATESH’ military-partisan movement.
According to the movement’s agents, the command structures of the Russian Black Sea Fleet are allegedly drawing up plans to relocate the command headquarters, which remain in Sevastopol. This involves a possible move to Novorossiysk, where Russia was previously forced to partially redeploy its ships following a series of attacks on naval facilities in Crimea.
Why the Russians may be leaving Sevastopol
ATESH noted that on 27 May, the Ukrainian Defence Forces struck the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s aviation unit in Sevastopol. According to the group, following this, the Russian command began to review the security of the administrative structures’ presence on the occupied peninsula. Former deployment sites, in particular the fleet headquarters facilities, are gradually losing the ability to function properly due to the constant threat of new strikes.
Russian officers are already preparing to relocate
According to sources within the Russian military cited by ‘ATESH’, some officers are not waiting for official orders and are already sorting out practical matters related to a possible relocation. In particular, this involves moving their families and preparing to settle in Novorossiysk. The movement notes that the relocation of command structures could be a consequence of systematic pressure on the Russian military infrastructure in Crimea. “ATESH” stated that it continues to monitor the movements of Russian military personnel and changes in the command structure of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
