Hundreds of Russian soldiers underwent training in China before being deployed to the front
This was reported by "European Truth", citing a senior EU official.
According to the publication’s source, European intelligence services have received information about the training of Russian military personnel on Chinese territory. This concerns hundreds of Russian soldiers who underwent training at several training bases in China.
“Our services have confirmed the information regarding China’s training of Russian soldiers. The training took place at several training bases in China, and hundreds of Russian military personnel received it,” said the EU official.
What the European Union is saying
According to the publication’s source, after completing their training, the Russian military personnel were deployed to the war against Ukraine. Meanwhile, China denies that it trained Russian soldiers who subsequently went to the front line. The EU insists it has evidence of such cooperation. The issue is set to be discussed at a meeting of European Union foreign ministers on 15 June.
How this could affect EU-China relations
Apart from the military issue, European officials plan to raise the question of overall relations with Beijing. In particular, the discussion will focus on trade and the European defence industry’s dependence on Chinese suppliers. The EU is considering ways to reduce this dependence amid reports of support that Russia may be receiving from China during the war.
