Zelenskyy has appointed Taras Kachka as Ukraine’s representative to the EU
The Head of State announced this on social media.
“I believe that Taras will be best placed to carry this out at Ukraine’s mission to the EU in Brussels. Given Taras’s proven track record and experience in trade policy, he will combine this role with the European Union with that of Ukraine’s trade representative within the framework of our bilateral trade agreements with key partners,” the President noted.
According to Zelenskyy, Kachka will focus on stepping up efforts regarding negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU, in particular on progressing the clusters that have already been opened and preparing for the opening of the next ones.
The President also noted that Ukraine is awaiting a decision on the opening of a further four negotiation clusters, and that Kachka’s experience in trade policy should help in achieving these objectives.
As a reminder, on 15 June, all European Union member states officially supported the opening of the first cluster of accession negotiations for Ukraine and Moldova. Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, stated that the other five clusters within the framework of Ukraine’s accession negotiations could be opened as early as July.
In particular, the European Union recently opened the sixth negotiation cluster, ‘External Relations’, as part of Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations.
