Zelenskyy has submitted Koretsky’s nomination for the post of Prime Minister to the Rada
This was reported by the Verkhovna Rada’s press service.
The Speaker of Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, stated that the Verkhovna Rada would consider the nomination in the near future in accordance with established procedure.
Koretskyi has already met with MPs from the presidential faction ‘Servant of the People’. During the meeting, he outlined his vision for the work of the Cabinet of Ministers, the future structure of the government and his main priorities as Prime Minister.
Among his priorities, Koretskyy cited support for the population, preparing the country for the next heating season, strengthening the Defence Forces and protecting critical infrastructure.
The head of the “Servant of the People” parliamentary group, Davyd Arakhamia, explained his support for the candidate by citing his experience in the corporate and public sectors. According to him, Koretskyi has proven himself at the helm of “Ukrnafta” and “Naftogaz”.
Arakhamia drew particular attention to how the previous heating season had gone. Despite Russian strikes on gas production and storage facilities, this energy resource continued to be supplied steadily to consumers. The parliamentary group considers this experience to be particularly important as preparations are made for the coming winter.
What is known about Serhiy Koretskyi
Serhiy Koretskyi has been chair of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine since May 2025. Prior to this, he managed the state-owned companies ‘Ukrnafta’ and ‘UkrTatNafta’, and before that worked for many years in the private sector, particularly in the fuel sector.
Koretskyi was born in Lutsk in 1978. He studied at Lutsk State Technical University, where he specialised in engineering and economics.
From 1997, he worked for the ‘Kontinium’ group of companies, which included the WOG network of petrol stations. He subsequently became head of the group and oversaw the development of the fuel business.
In November 2022, Koretskyi was appointed director of Ukrnafta and UkrTatNafta. Under his leadership, Ukrnafta increased oil and gas production, expanded its network of petrol stations and resumed investment in the drilling of new wells.
In May 2025, Koretskyi moved to Naftogaz, where he became chairman of the company’s board and head of the Naftogaz Group.
When will the Rada consider the appointment?
Prior to the President putting forward his candidacy, Koretskyi held meetings with parliamentary factions. Members of Parliament and the Ukrainian media described him as the leading contender for the post of Prime Minister.
To be appointed Prime Minister, Koretskyi must secure the support of a majority of MPs. Once this has been achieved, the Verkhovna Rada will be able to proceed with forming the new government.
The reshuffle began following the resignation of Yulia Svyrydenko. On 14 July, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed her from the post of Prime Minister, which meant the resignation of the entire Cabinet of Ministers.
Until a new Prime Minister is appointed and a government is formed, the duties of the head of the Cabinet of Ministers are being carried out by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Denys Shmyhal.
