Officially, the case involves three sitting Supreme Court judges and one retired Supreme Court judge. The anti-corruption authorities have not disclosed the names of the new individuals implicated, but information regarding the likely parties involved in the case and their background has already emerged in the public domain.
An official ceremony was held at the Bonnevoy Cemetery in Luxembourg to hand over to the Ukrainian side the remains of Colonel Andriy Melnyk, leader of the OUN from 1938 to 1964, and his wife, Sofia Fedak-Melnyk. The remains are to be transported to Ukraine for reburial in Kyiv at the National Military Memorial Cemetery – the Pantheon of Outstanding Ukrainians.
In January–April 2026, cash expenditure from the General Fund of the State Budget of Ukraine amounted to 1.35 trillion UAH. This is 163.6 billion UAH, or 13.8%, more than in the same period last year. In April, expenditure from the general fund of the state budget reached UAH 433.1 billion. The largest share of funds was allocated to security and defence.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy has approved the new line-up of state representatives on the supervisory board of NPC “Ukrenergo”. The board now comprises Yuriy Boyko, Yegor Perelygin and Mykola Brusenko. The supervisory board of NPC “Ukrenergo” consists of seven members: four independent members selected through a competitive process, and three state representatives.
Orthodox Christians in Ukraine will celebrate the Ascension of the Lord on 21 May 2026. The feast falls on the 40th day after Easter each year, so the date varies. In the run-up to the Ascension, folk tradition places particular emphasis on keeping the home clean, maintaining peace and quiet, praying, and completing household chores.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Economy has reminded participants in the “National Cashback” scheme that the funds they have accumulated must be used by 30 June 2026 inclusive. The ministry noted that the scheme itself will continue to operate as normal, and payments for purchases of Ukrainian goods will continue to be made after the 20th of the following month.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi has stated that the Ukrainian army is working on a mechanism for discharging military personnel from service during wartime. According to him, this issue must be balanced and controlled, and will depend on the situation on the battlefield. The Armed Forces also plan to introduce short-term contracts and increase military pay. The minimum pay level is to be 30,000 hryvnias.
The National Bank of Ukraine has fined Ukrposhta 1.7 million hryvnias for breaching payment market regulations. The company must pay the fine within five working days of receiving the regulator’s decision.
On 20 May, according to the new church calendar, Ukraine commemorates the martyrs Falaleus, Alexander and Asterius, who were killed for their Christian faith in the 3rd century. In popular tradition, this day is known as Falaleus Day. It is associated with sowing cucumbers, prayers for good health and preparing the home for the Ascension of the Lord.
In Montenegro, the former director of the National Security Agency, Dejan Peruničić, has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment. The case concerns the illegal wiretapping and surveillance of opposition politicians, journalists, former prosecutors and church figures.
Since the start of 2026, 10 healthcare facilities participating in the ‘Ray of Hope’ project have begun generating their own electricity. The total installed capacity of the solar power stations that have come online is 770 kW.
Deputy Head of the President’s Office and Brigadier General Pavlo Palisa has stated that the authorities are not currently considering lowering the conscription age, restricting travel abroad for men aged 18–24, or the compulsory conscription of women. According to him, further decisions will depend on the situation at the front, but at present these issues are not even being considered at the risk assessment stage.
