Ukraine is drawing up a 10-year economic strategy
Serhiy Tihipko, a member of the Council for the Support of Entrepreneurship, announced this during the Concorde Energy conference.
According to Tigipko, over the past two months, members of the Council for Entrepreneurship Support have been working on approaches to developing a long-term economic programme.
He said that the finalised document is expected to be presented in around six months’ time. The programme is intended to set out the main directions for Ukraine’s economic development over the next 7–10 years.
In the Council members’ assessment, certain government initiatives in recent years – in particular the ‘5-7-9’ affordable lending programme and the development of industrial parks – have had a positive impact, but have not been integrated into a single, systematic strategy.
What principles will the programme be based on?
European integration is cited as one of the key pillars of the future strategy.
The second priority should be the creation of the most liberal economic model possible within the European Union.
According to Tihipko, achieving this goal requires a comprehensive approach and coordinated economic reforms that can be implemented over the course of several years.
What is the ‘Economy of the Future’ strategy?
On the eve of the presentation, the Head of the President’s Office, Kirilo Budanov, announced the presentation of the draft ‘Economy of the Future’ strategy.
Representatives of the Office of the President, the government, the consultancy firm McKinsey, the World Bank, international experts and representatives of Ukrainian business are working on the document.
Budanov described this draft as a practical equivalent of the Marshall Plan for Ukraine.
How Ukraine’s new economy is envisaged
According to the Head of the Office of the President, the future economic model should be based on three main pillars.
These are tackling corruption, creating a strong industrial sector, and developing an innovative economy integrated into global markets.
It is these principles that should form the basis of the state’s long-term economic policy.
