6 March: what holiday is today, memorable dates and events of the day
6 March 2026 falls on a Friday. It is the 1,471st day of the war in Ukraine.
On this day, believers honour the memory of the 42 martyrs of Amoria. These are Christian saints who suffered martyrdom during the persecution of the faith in the 3rd-4th centuries in the city of Amoria, located in modern-day Turkey.
According to church tradition, they were executed after refusing to renounce Christianity and make sacrifices to pagan gods. The martyrs are known for their steadfastness in the face of torture and their unshakeable faith.
On 6 March, Ukraine and the world celebrate the World Day of Prayer. This is an international initiative aimed at uniting people through common prayer, regardless of religious affiliation.
Its goal is to promote spiritual communication, mutual understanding and peace. The initiative also reminds us of prayer as a source of support, comfort and moral strength.
In addition, 6 March marks World Disconnect Day, also known as Gadget-Free Day. The idea is to temporarily give up digital devices.
Participants are encouraged to devote this day to live communication, nature walks, reading, hobbies or time with family.
Another event is Employee Appreciation Day. Many organisations hold small events on this day, presenting awards or certificates, organising corporate lunches or symbolic gifts for employees.
6 March is also World Lymphedema Awareness Day. Its purpose is to spread information about the symptoms, prevention and treatment of this disease.
As part of the initiative, awareness campaigns, consultations and educational events are held to draw attention to the importance of early diagnosis and patient support.
