A UK MP is taking Musk’s company to court over sexualised deepfakes
This is according to Reuters.
Labour MP Jess Asato has claimed that users created fake images and videos of her after she publicly criticised Musk and Grok.
She has filed a claim with the High Court in London alleging misuse of personal information and breaches of data protection laws, and claims that the way Grok was developed and trained allowed the platform to generate sexualised content.
According to the case documents, Asato is seeking an order requiring xAI to ‘take effective measures’ to ensure that Grok cannot generate fake images featuring her.
Background
In late 2025, xAI added the ability to create sexualised images of real people to Grok. To do this, users had to ask the AI in the comments section beneath a published photograph to ‘undress’ the person, depicting them, for example, in their underwear.
Geneviève Oh, a researcher specialising in social media and deepfakes, told Bloomberg that on 5–6 January, the chatbot generated around 6,700 images every hour. The subjects of this ‘undressing’ included ordinary female users, as well as celebrities and female politicians.
Initially, the feature was available free of charge with daily limits, but users later required a paid subscription to create deepfakes.
Ultimately, following criticism, the X platform banned the Grok chatbot from generating sexualised images of users.
