Bulgarian activists have reported a possible Wagner base near the village of Kladnitsa.
The BOEC public association has announced the possible discovery of a facility that may be linked to the Russian private military company Wagner, near the Bulgarian village of Kladnitsa in the Pernik region. This was announced by BOEC leader Georgi Georgiev during a live broadcast on social media on Sunday.
According to Georgiev and published footage, activists came across a small building in the mountains above Kladnitsa, which they called a potential base for terrorist activities. BOEC claims that the area was under heavy guard, with people with dogs present and access to the facility strictly controlled.
The activists say they noticed Wagner insignia on the clothing and headgear of people at the site, and that the Russian flag and Wagner emblem were visible on the building itself. Georgiev claimed in the broadcast that those present were wearing the symbols of the "Russian paramilitary terrorist organisation Wagner," which, according to him, is controlled by the Russian special services.
BOEC reported that it immediately alerted the Bulgarian Ministry of Internal Affairs, drawing attention to the possible presence of armed individuals and symbols of an organisation that activists describe as sanctioned and terrorist on the territory of the country. The statement also suggested that some of the people at the facility may be current or former law enforcement officers, which is why activists believe there has been no response so far.
Georgiev criticised the lack of swift action and drew parallels with previous reports, in particular the case in Petrokhan, emphasising the risk of institutional inaction.
