Bulgaria is withdrawing from the ‘Coalition of the Willing’
Rumen Radev, Prime Minister of Bulgaria
Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev has announced that his country is withdrawing from the ‘Coalition of the Willing’. The country did not send a representative to the meeting held in Paris on 13 July.

Bloomberg reports this.

According to the Bulgarian Prime Minister, they will not participate in a coalition that “advocates continuing financial and military aid to Ukraine”. He believes that a “powerful diplomatic initiative” could bring the war to an end.

On 9 June, Bulgarian Defence Minister Dimitar Stoyanov stated that the government plans to halt arms supplies to Ukraine. He explained that Ukraine needs more people, not more weapons. He later clarified his statement, saying that the country was halting the supply of weapons and ammunition from Bulgarian army depots, rather than the sale of arms.

Bulgaria is one of the largest producers of Soviet-style ammunition among EU member states, which was of vital importance to Ukraine at the start of the full-scale war. Since 2022, the country has sent 13 consignments of military aid, but has kept their value and contents secret.
