The government is refunding fuel costs: how drivers can claim 1,000 hryvnias
Radio Track reports on how to take advantage of the government scheme.
The situation at petrol stations today looks worrying: the popular OKKO and WOG chains have raised diesel prices to 85 hryvnias, whilst premium brands are being sold for over 90. However, it is diesel car owners who stand to benefit most from the government initiative. The scheme offers a record 15% cashback on every litre of diesel purchased, which effectively offsets the latest price hike. For A-95 petrol, the cashback is 10%, whilst owners of cars fitted with LPG systems can expect a 5% refund.
The main secret to saving money is to be quick off the mark. The programme’s daily budget is capped at 20 million hryvnias, so savvy drivers fill up first thing in the morning before the limit is reached. Payment must be made exclusively by card, via partner banks. This means that even when refuelling at the highest rates in premium networks, you actually pay 10–15% less, with real money returned to your account.
As the cashback scheme is only valid until 1 May 2026, drivers have just over a month left to take advantage of this opportunity. The maximum payout per person is 1,000 hryvnias per month — a compelling reason to fill up your tanks now, before the start of the busy travel season. April will be the last chance to receive such substantial state support on every litre of fuel.
