France has banned Israeli Minister Ben-Gvir from entering the country
The French Foreign Minister announced this on the social media platform X.
France has responded to the incident involving the Global Sumud
According to Barrot, the decision relates to Ben-Gvir’s actions towards French and European citizens who were on board the Global Sumud. The French minister emphasised that Paris does not support such actions, but considers any pressure, intimidation or mistreatment of French citizens to be unacceptable.
“We cannot tolerate French citizens being threatened, intimidated or treated brutally, especially when this is done by a public official,” Barro said.
Paris has called on the EU to impose sanctions
The French Foreign Minister also noted that the Israeli minister’s actions were a continuation of a series of statements and acts which, in Paris’s view, contain incitement to hatred and violence against Palestinians. Barrot stated that he supports Italy’s call for the European Union to impose sanctions against Ben-Gvir. Itamar Ben-Gvir is one of the most prominent figures on the Israeli political right and has repeatedly found himself at the centre of international criticism due to his comments regarding Palestinians and the situation in the Gaza Strip.
