Germany plans to provide Ukraine with at least €11.5 billion in military aid this year. The Ministry of Defence has stated that support is gradually shifting from direct supplies to a defence partnership, which involves investment in Ukrainian and joint arms production.

This was announced by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence.

Germany plans to provide Ukraine with at least €11.5 billion in military aid in 2026.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence noted that this involves not only direct support but also a transition to a defence partnership.

“Germany plans to provide at least €11.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine this year. It is important that we are moving from direct support to a defence partnership,” the Ministry of Defence stated.

The ministry explained that Germany is channelling increasing amounts of funding into Ukrainian and joint arms production, investments in long-range capabilities, and the launch of new defence technologies.

“Germany provides resources and industrial capacity. Ukraine provides experience of real warfare and technologies that change the situation on the battlefield,” the Ministry of Defence added.

What is included in the aid package

The Ministry of Defence has outlined the key areas being funded by the German side as part of the military aid package worth at least €11.5 billion.

Part of the funds will go towards strengthening Ukraine’s air defence.

In particular, Germany has announced $4 billion to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence.

A further $600 million is to be directed towards developing deep-strike and middle-strike capabilities.

The German side is also funding a contract with Raytheon to supply missiles for Patriot systems worth €3.2 billion.

Separately, the supply of IRIS-T launchers worth almost €200 million is planned.

Investments in arms production

A separate area of German support is investment in the production of Ukrainian weapons.

This includes, in particular, €300 million for the production of long-range weapons with a range of up to 1,500 km.

Joint production of middle-strike drones is also planned.

The Ministry of Defence also mentioned joint projects between Ukrainian and German companies in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles and localisation of production.

Furthermore, Germany is funding the supply of artillery ammunition as part of the Czech Initiative.

Almost €900 million has already been allocated for this purpose.

The Ministry of Defence emphasised that Germany is Ukraine’s largest partner in terms of security assistance. Its support accounts for around a third of all aid to Ukraine.
