The Main Intelligence Directorate has revealed a new Russian missile for the Su-57 containing foreign components
This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine on the War&Sanctions portal in the ‘Weapon Components’ section.
The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has revealed the new Russian S-71K “Kover” cruise missile.
The War&Sanctions portal has published an interactive 3D model of the missile, information about its components and an electronic parts list.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, the missile was developed by the United Aircraft Corporation specifically for the Su-57 fighter jet.
The Main Intelligence Directorate noted that the S-71K “Kover” was first deployed at the end of last year. Intelligence also believes that this missile is likely one of UAC’s first attempts at missile design.
The missile’s warhead is a 250 kg OFAB-250-270 fragmentation-high-explosive aerial bomb. It has been integrated into the nose section’s structural frame.
The S-71K “Kover” airframe is made of a multi-layered material based on glass-reinforced plastic with additional reinforcement.
The rocket’s internal components are made of aluminium alloys.
The on-board control system includes a flight controller, an inertial navigation system based on simple sensors, and a power supply system.
The Main Intelligence Directorate emphasised that the vast majority of the missile’s electronic components are of foreign origin.
“The vast majority of the electronic components are of foreign origin: American, Chinese, Swiss, Japanese, German, Taiwanese and Irish manufacture,” the intelligence report stated.
The missile is equipped with an R500 turbojet engine manufactured by REYNOULDS LLC, a subsidiary of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).
Thanks to its main and two side fuel tanks, the S-71K “Kover” is estimated to have a range of up to 300 km.
According to the GUR, Russia is considering the possibility of deploying this missile from the S-70 “Okhotnik” drone in the future.
The intelligence report emphasised that access to foreign technologies and components allows the aggressor state to develop new weapons and scale up their use in the war against Ukraine.
“Maintaining access to foreign technologies and components allows the aggressor state to develop new weapons and scale up their use in the war against Ukraine,” the GUR emphasised.
The Main Intelligence Directorate added that it is continuing its systematic work to expose the technological base of the Russian military-industrial complex.
The GUR also called for increased sanctions pressure to limit the enemy’s ability to wage war.
Earlier, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine released an interactive 3D model, the main components and parts of the enemy’s new cruise missile, the “Izdeliye-30”. The intelligence service also revealed data on 20 enterprises involved in its production.
Furthermore, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence had previously released an interactive 3D model and components of the Russian reconnaissance drone “Knyaz Veshchy Oleg”.
As reported by ThePublic, the French Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with Turgis Gaillard and Renault, is developing the “Chorus” strike drone. Patrick Payou, a delegate from the Directorate General of Armaments (DGA), spoke about the development during a Senate hearing.
