Hungary has once again imposed restrictions on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products
The country’s Prime Minister, Péter Magyar, announced the decision.
Mátyás announced the ban on Facebook
In a brief Facebook post, the head of the Hungarian government stated that Hungary was withdrawing its intention to withdraw from the International Criminal Court and was imposing a ban on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine. The Prime Minister did not provide any details of the decision. However, information about the new restrictions subsequently appeared in the government gazette. The announcement was made against the backdrop of contacts between Kyiv and Budapest regarding bilateral relations and Ukraine’s European integration.
Grain, meat and honey are subject to the restrictions
According to the published documents, the import of a number of Ukrainian goods into Hungary is prohibited, including beef, pork, poultry, eggs, honey, cereals, flour, vegetable oil and wine. Some of these restrictions had been in place since 2023. Following the end of the state of emergency on 14 May 2026, the relevant temporary decrees ceased to apply; however, the government decided to reinstate the ban. Budapest explains this move as necessary to protect local producers from price pressure and competition from cheaper imported goods. The Ukrainian side has not yet officially commented on the Hungarian government’s decision.
