The Cabinet of Ministers is preparing food reserves in case of power outages
The Cabinet of Ministers held a meeting with food producers to discuss food security in the event of possible power outages. This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, who stressed that the food supply situation in the country remains under control.
According to Svyrydenko, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine is coordinating work with producers and retail chains. A special headquarters headed by Oleksiy Sobolev and Taras Vysotsky is operating at the ministry. The government has promised to respond promptly to all business requests related to working under energy restrictions.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine has received specific instructions. The service must develop mechanisms for short-term emergency power supply for enterprises producing basic food products in the event of sudden power outages. Operational food reserves will also be formed in the regions in case of the deployment of food distribution points.
In addition, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, together with the NEURC, must ensure the connection and launch of generating facilities that are already owned by food producers but have not yet been put into operation. According to the Prime Minister, the government has already adopted all the necessary decisions for this.
Svyrydenko also appealed to retail chains to give priority to Ukrainian products. She stressed that this is a matter of the country's economic stability, and the Ministry of Economy will additionally work out mechanisms to support domestic producers.
"As of now, there is sufficient food available in Ukraine. The capacity of producers exceeds domestic consumption. The situation is under control," the head of government concluded.
