According to the singer, his team was allegedly involved in staging a performance for the Bulgarian singer. Kirkorov also confirmed his collaboration with Greek composer Dimitris Kontopoulos, who worked on the contest entry ‘Bangaranga’.
“I have devoted so many years to Eurovision, guiding and helping so many,” the artist said in a comment to the Russian media.
During his performance, he also mentioned Ukraine in the context of statements about “friendly nations”.
Following Bulgaria’s victory, discussions arose regarding links to the Russian entertainment industry
Following Bulgaria’s victory in the contest, social media began discussing possible links between DARA’s team and the Russian music scene. In particular, users’ attention was drawn to Kontopoulos’ involvement in creating the song. The composer had previously collaborated with Russian artists, including Sergey Lazarev, the Tolmachevy sisters and Ani Lorak. Online attention was also drawn to photos of the composer in Moscow, published after the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
The Bulgarian broadcaster and the singer have not commented on the claims
At present, neither DARA herself nor the Bulgarian broadcaster BNT have publicly confirmed the information regarding Kirkorov’s involvement in preparing the performance. Therefore, the Russian artist’s claims remain unconfirmed. As previously reported by The Public, Bulgaria won the Eurovision Song Contest. DARA secured victory with the song ‘Bangaranga’.
