When coffee kills: a new study on the timing of consumption
This is reported by Verywell Health
Researchers monitored 40,000 people for nearly 10 years and found that those who drink coffee exclusively in the morning have a significantly lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.
Why does timing matter?
-
Anti-inflammatory boost: It is in the morning that our bodies have the highest levels of inflammatory molecules. Coffee (even decaffeinated) acts as an antidote, reducing these levels most effectively in the early hours of the day.
-
The melatonin trap: Coffee after lunch or in the evening disrupts your circadian rhythms. It lowers melatonin levels, leading to insomnia, oxidative stress and increased blood pressure.
Researchers emphasise that if you drink coffee all day long, you effectively negate its beneficial properties. To get the maximum benefit, experts advise limiting yourself to a morning ritual and having your last cup at least 6 hours before bedtime.
