Kurdish forces leave Aleppo after bloody fighting and truce agreement
Kurdish fighters in Syria have agreed to a ceasefire and withdrawal from certain areas of Aleppo after intense fighting with government forces. This was reported by France 24, citing a statement by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
According to the newspaper, the agreement provides for the evacuation of the dead and wounded, as well as civilians and fighters from the Ashrafiya and Sheikh Maqsoud districts to northern and eastern Syria. The Syrian state news agency SANA said that the last buses with SDF members have already left the Sheikh Maksoud area towards the northeast of the country.
The fighting broke out after the failure of negotiations on the integration of Kurdish formations into the new Syrian government. According to the parties, at least 21 civilians were killed in the clashes, and more than 155,000 Aleppo residents were forced to leave their homes. The US and the EU have called on Damascus and the Kurdish leadership to return to political dialogue to avoid further destabilisation of the region.
