Lukashenko arrived in China and held talks with Xi Jinping
Alexander Lukashenko arrived in China on a visit and held a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.
During the talks, Xi Jinping stated that China supports Belarus in matters relating to national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. The Chinese leader also noted that Sino-Belarusian relations are currently at an all-time high.
In response, Lukashenko expressed his gratitude for this assessment of bilateral relations and stated that cooperation between Belarus and the People’s Republic of China had reached a new level.
Following the official part of the meeting, the parties continued their discussions over lunch. Lukashenko’s press office noted that this format goes beyond diplomatic protocol and demonstrates a special level of trust.
Lukashenko’s visit to Beijing followed his two-day talks in Russia with Vladimir Putin, during which the parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as the situation in the region and the world.
The day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had stated that repeaters had been deployed on Belarusian territory along the border with Ukraine, which were being used to guide Russian strikes on Ukrainian settlements. The Ukrainian side gave Minsk a week to dismantle these devices.
Later, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the relay stations on Belarusian territory had ceased operations as of 22 June.
