Meta has announced plans to cut 10% of its workforce, amounting to approximately 8,000 people, and to cancel thousands of job vacancies.

This is according to the BBC.

The main reason for this decision was the rapid rise in spending on artificial intelligence development: this year’s budget for this area will reach $135 billion.

The company’s management explains the transformation as a result of increased productivity thanks to AI tools, which allow individual employees to handle workloads that previously required entire teams.

Mark Zuckerberg predicts that 2026 will be a turning point in the transformation of work processes driven by new technologies.

The large-scale redundancies at Meta reflect a broader market trend in the IT industry. Similar measures have already been implemented by Amazon, Oracle, Microsoft and other corporations, with the redundancies justified by the need to pool resources for the development of artificial intelligence and the infrastructure of the future.

It was previously reported that Meta has allowed parents to monitor the topics of their children’s conversations with AI.
