A mass migration of beavers has begun in the Kyiv region: what you need to know
Beaver migration in the Kyiv region
Residents of the Kyiv region are increasingly coming across beavers in the most unexpected places — from residential gardens to roadsides.

This is reported by Nash Kyiv.

Experts from the Kyiv Animal Rescue Group explain that this is no coincidence, but the start of a major seasonal migration.

Every spring, adult beavers ask their offspring from the previous year to make room for new cubs. The young are forced to leave their parents’ dam and set off in search of their own territory. As young beavers have previously only seen their native pond, they often get lost and wander into human settlements, ‘conquering the world’ wherever their eyes take them.

In the last few days alone, rescue services have received four calls regarding migrating rodents in the following towns:

  • Ukrainka,
  • Klavdievo-Tarasove,
  • Karpylivka (Chernobyl zone),
  • Novi Novaky (Zhytomyr region).

What to do if you encounter beavers

Rescuers urge people not to scare the animals or try to catch them themselves. They are simply looking for a new home.

If a beaver is in a dangerous place (for example, stuck in a fence or out on the road), you should contact animal rescue specialists.
