Oleg Apostol, Commander of the Airborne Forces, has called on military personnel not to get involved in political disputes
The relevant post was published on the page of the Airborne Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Apostol noted that he has been serving since 2014, took part in the battles for Luhansk Airport and understands the responsibility commanders bear when making decisions in wartime.
According to him, the military chain of command is based on the principle of a single chain of command, discipline and the personal responsibility of commanders for the lives of their subordinates.
“The army cannot be a platform for political confrontation”
In his statement, the Major General emphasised that professional and reasoned criticism is normal; however, public insults and unfounded accusations against the military leadership, in his view, undermine trust in the army and play into the hands of the enemy.
He also stated that decisions on the deployment of troops are taken by commanders who are working directly in combat zones, have full information about the situation and bear personal responsibility for their orders.
Separately, Apostol emphasised that the Armed Forces of Ukraine must remain outside the realm of politics.
“The army cannot be a platform for political confrontation, settling personal scores or mutual insults. For where politics enters the army, its combat effectiveness ends,” the address states.
In conclusion, the commander called on service personnel to maintain composure, discipline and mutual respect, and not to allow themselves to be drawn into political disputes.
