Over the past three months, more than 100 children have been injured. Lviv plans to impose partial restrictions on the use of electric scooters
This was reported by Lviv’s mayor, Andriy Sadovyi.
According to him, in 2025, three children in the city became posthumous organ donors following serious injuries linked to electric scooters. Over the past three months, more than 100 children have been hospitalised due to scooter-related incidents.
“Many people ask why the city doesn’t simply ban electric scooters. Because the city currently lacks such powers. A ban could be announced as early as tomorrow. But if scooters continue to be ridden around the city after that, it will not be a solution, but merely a pretence of one,” Sadovyi wrote.
At the same time, from 1 July, the city authorities are proposing to introduce the following changes:
- prohibit the use of electric scooters by children under 16;
- limit the speed of electric scooters to 15 km/h on accident-prone sections;
- make the use of protective helmets compulsory;
- prohibit the parking of rental electric scooters outside designated parking areas.
It should be noted that on 11 June, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Transport and Infrastructure recommended that parliament adopt draft law No. 3023. According to Oleksiy Biloshitsky, First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department, the bill addresses the rights and obligations of users, particularly those travelling on electric scooters and monowheels.
“Once the law is passed, amendments are planned to the Highway Code, which will detail other aspects of using light personal electric transport,” Biloshitsky said.
As a reminder, it was previously reported that the Verkhovna Rada intends to confiscate electric scooters for traffic violations.
