Povaliy’s songs have been handed over to the state: the singer has been sentenced in absentia to 12 years
The Office of the Prosecutor General announced the verdict.
On 28 May, Vinnytsia City Court sentenced Taisiya Povaliy in absentia to 12 years’ imprisonment.
The court also banned her from holding certain positions for a period of 15 years and ordered the confiscation of all her property to the state.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, prosecutors from the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor’s Office proved in court that the former People’s Artist of Ukraine and former MP from the banned “Party of Regions” had moved to Russia after 2014 and systematically supported the aggressor state.
What was she accused of?
According to the case file, following the Revolution of Dignity, Povaliy has been living in Moscow, where she continues her creative work.
In 2023, she obtained Russian citizenship.
The investigation established that the singer took part in propaganda events, justified Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine and disseminated anti-Ukrainian narratives.
There is also mention of her participation in concerts in support of the so-called “SVO”, events dedicated to the illegal occupation of Ukrainian territories, and her systematic appearances in Russian propaganda media.
What about Povaliy’s property and music
A particular aspect of the case concerns the singer’s assets and music rights.
In 2024, the High Anti-Corruption Court ruled that Povaliy’s assets should be confiscated and transferred to the state.
This included, in particular, land plots and property in the Kyiv region, vehicles, weapons, as well as property rights to nine musical works.
In 2025, these property rights were officially registered in the name of the State of Ukraine.
How the case unfolded
In February 2024, the Security Service of Ukraine gathered evidence and notified Povaliy of the charges against her in absentia.
She was charged with collaboration and supporting Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.
The indictment was subsequently sent to court. As Povaliy is in Russia, the case was heard in absentia.
What the verdict means
In effect, the Ukrainian court found Povaliy guilty of supporting the aggressor state and engaging in propaganda activities against Ukraine.
The sentence entails not only a prison term and the confiscation of property, but also a ban on holding certain positions for 15 years.
A particular point of emphasis is the transfer of property rights to her songs to the state. In other words, these rights no longer belong to Povaliy, but are registered in the name of Ukraine.
