Rescue workers have brought large-scale forest fires in Zakarpattia and Rivne regions under control
This was reported by the State Emergency Service.
A large-scale fire in the Verkhniy Volovets Forestry District in Zakarpattia was brought under control at 08:20 on 7 May — the fire was first reported at approximately 15:30 on 5 May 2026.
Currently, there are no open flames; only isolated smouldering of fallen deadwood is taking place. The area affected by the fire covers 75 hectares.
A total of 217 people and 30 pieces of equipment have been deployed to tackle the fire, including 75 rescuers and 22 pieces of equipment from the State Emergency Service.
Also involved in extinguishing the fire are 139 employees of the Carpathian branch of the State Enterprise ‘Forests of Ukraine’ and 6 pieces of equipment. Volunteers from the Transcarpathian Red Cross Rapid Response Unit have set up a tent at the site.
Firefighting operations are still ongoing.
In the Rivne region, the total area affected by the fire in the territories of the Klesiv Forestry, the Rivne Nature Reserve and the ‘Selyanskyi Forest’ State Forestry Enterprise is approximately 90 hectares.
