Russia is seeking additional consignments of petrol from India – ISW
This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Rosneft, Gazpromneft and Lukoil are among the companies that have been in contact with Indian partners, in particular private and state-owned oil refineries.
The Russian companies have approached them requesting additional volumes of petrol, but they do not have surplus volumes available for export.
Analysts note that Russia will also seek sources of diesel fuel if Ukrainian attacks take additional refining capacity out of action.
The impact of the Ukrainian campaign has already been unprecedented. Analysts estimate that drone strikes may have put between 20% and 40% of Russia’s total oil refining capacity out of action.
As a result, average daily oil refining has fallen to 3.91 million barrels – the lowest figure since March 2005. This is more than 1.4 million barrels less than a year ago. The fuel crisis has already forced the Russian authorities to impose strict restrictions on exports of diesel, petrol and aviation fuel.
Experts believe that if Ukraine’s attacks continue, the fuel shortage within Russia will only worsen, and the Kremlin will become increasingly dependent on imported supplies.
The fuel crisis in Russia: what we know
It should be recalled that, due to attacks by Ukrainian drones, Russia has faced a deepening fuel crisis. The fuel shortage has already led to a fresh surge in retail prices.
It should be noted that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin recently admitted that strikes by Ukrainian drones had caused “certain problems with petroleum products” in Russia. At the same time, he claimed that the situation was supposedly being gradually stabilised.
