University Rankings 2026: Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv tops the list again – who else made it into the top ten?

How the ranking was compiled
The consolidated index is based on data from the three most authoritative surveys recognised by experts and the media:
- ‘Top 200 Ukraine’;
- "Scopus";
- "NMT Score for Contract Places".
Each of these rankings uses its own criteria, so the final list is a synthesis that provides the most comprehensive picture of the performance of educational institutions.
Top 10 universities in Ukraine in 2026
The top ten:
- Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv
- Ivan Franko National University of Lviv
- Lviv Polytechnic National University
- Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute
- V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University
- Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University
- Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University
- Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University
- O. O. Bogomolets National Medical University
- National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy
The top twenty in the ranking include universities from 11 Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy and others.
Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts has been recognised as the best arts institution, whilst the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management (MAUP) holds the top spot among private universities.
As a reminder, the Ministry of Education and Science previously explained how and how many applications prospective students should submit to ensure they do not ‘miss out’ on admission in 2026.
