Russia plans to import aviation fuel from Japan in July due to the crisis following the attacks on oil refineries — Reuters
Reuters reports this, citing three sources.
It is expected that approximately 200,000 barrels of jet fuel will be loaded from Tiba in Japan and sent first to South Korea. There, it will be transferred to another tanker at the South Korean port of Yeosu. The exact destination of the shipment is not yet known.
According to Kpler, Russia last carried out such a shipment in February 2022. On that occasion, 22,000 barrels of jet fuel were loaded from the port of Yeosu. The cargo was delivered to Vladivostok in Russia.
The fuel crisis in Russia: what we know
A fuel crisis is ongoing in Russia against the backdrop of Ukrainian attacks on oil refineries. A ban on petrol exports has been in force in Russia since 1 April, and in early June the Russian government banned the export of aviation kerosene for the first time.
Earlier, Reuters reported, citing sources, that the country plans to import fuel by sea from Asia in June. As far back as 2025, Russia had considered the possibility of importing it by sea, but domestic capacity ultimately proved sufficient.
The Russians were also in talks to import 50,000 tonnes of A-92 petrol from Kazakhstan.
On 2 July, it emerged that Russia had begun purchasing petrol from India amid a fuel crisis caused by Ukraine’s attacks.
