Russians are using AI to fabricate videos claiming success in Kostiantynivka — ISW
This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War.
It states that on 15 June, the Russians published a video showing Russian soldiers holding Russian flags on the western outskirts of Kostiantynivka and in Dovha Balka, the capture of which the Russian Ministry of Defence announced on the same day.
The Institute for the Study of War has reason to believe that the videos showing Russian flags being raised may have been created using artificial intelligence to falsify the extent of advances on the battlefield.
The commander of the 19th Corps of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Brigadier General Oleksandr Bakulin stated that Russian commanders had already informed their command of the capture of Kostiantynivka and were now attacking to ‘make it a reality’.
Bakulin says that between 93 and 153 Russian troops have infiltrated Kostiantynivka, so estimates of 250–300 soldiers are “somewhat exaggerated”.
“Ukraine’s tactical situation in Kostiantynivka is deteriorating, but the Russian Ministry of Defence is misrepresenting the potential future capture of Kostiantynivka as a harbinger of the imminent capture of the entire fortified belt and the rest of the Donetsk region,” the ISW report states.
Earlier, the commander of the 19th Army Corps, Brigadier General Oleksandr Bakulin, confirmed that around 130 Russian servicemen had infiltrated Kostiantynivka.
He noted that the enemy’s positions are under constant surveillance and are being struck daily. A significant portion of the invaders’ personnel are wounded or trapped under rubble.
