The Security Service of Ukraine detained a businessman who coordinated Russian attacks on Kyiv
According to the Security Service of Ukraine, the detainee was involved in the manufacture of armoured glass for the Defence Forces' vehicles. According to the SSU's cyber experts, he was preparing a series of Russian air strikes on Ukrainian enterprises that repair military transport and modernise its tactical and technical characteristics.
To establish the locations of such companies, the suspect visited them under the pretext of concluding contracts for the production of armoured glass and agreeing on technical tasks. While on the premises of the enterprises, he marked the geolocation of the facilities, in particular the technological workshops, on Google Maps.
According to the investigation, he then planned to purchase and secretly install mini-cameras with remote access for Russian special services on the territories of potential targets. In this way, the occupiers intended to monitor the consequences of planned strikes.
The SBU reports that it documented the suspect's contacts with the FSB and detained him at his place of residence. At the same time, measures were taken to secure defence enterprises.
According to the investigation, the man came to the attention of the Russian special services after publishing pro-Kremlin comments in Telegram channel chats. During searches, his smartphone and computer equipment were seized, along with evidence of cooperation and contracts with the enterprises he visited.
Investigators informed him that he was suspected of violating Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The suspect is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The proceedings are being conducted by the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
