How many convicts have been mobilized to the Defense Forces — data from the Ministry of Justice
More than 10,000 convicts have been conditionally and prematurely released from prison for mobilization to the Defense Forces of Ukraine. This was reported by NV publication, citing the response of the Department for the Enforcement of Criminal Sentences of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine to a request from lawyer Roman Likhachov.
"As of 01.09.2025, more than 10,100 individuals have been conditionally and prematurely released under Article 811 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and transferred to units of the National Guard of Ukraine for delivery to territorial recruitment and social support centers," the response states.
The Ministry of Justice reminded that convicts can be conditionally and prematurely released for military service under a contract during mobilization and/or the state of war.
At the same time, not all convicts can be released from serving their sentence for mobilization. Specifically, those convicted of intentional murder of two or more persons (or murder with particular cruelty, or combined with sexual violence), and those convicted of particularly serious corruption-related criminal offenses, will not be eligible.
