Svyrydenko and Bessent agreed on steps to rebuild Ukraine and strengthen energy cooperation
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko held a substantive conversation with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. The main topic was the process of rebuilding Ukraine and attracting American investment. Svyrydenko noted that the US-Ukraine Investment Fund for Reconstruction already has an appointed investment advisor — Alvarez and Marsal. The next step will be to identify the first projects to be financed by the Fund.
The parties also discussed energy cooperation. Ukraine is interested in expanding purchases of American LNG to meet domestic demand and strengthen Europe's energy security. Svyrydenko stressed that this issue is of strategic importance in the context of war and dependence on external supplies.
The Prime Minister welcomed the new American sanctions against key Russian oil companies and their affiliates. According to her, such restrictions are effective and significantly affect the aggressor state's revenues, which directly support the war against Ukraine.
Svyrydenko thanked the US for its financial support, which ensures the stability of the Ukrainian economy. Ukraine expects the existing financial instruments to be maintained, in particular within the World Bank, as well as the approval of a new IMF programme for 2026-2029. An important step remains the acceleration of the launch of the Reparations loan mechanism to compensate for the damage caused by Russian aggression.
Svyrydenko emphasised that cooperation with American partners is constructive and based on a common goal — achieving a just peace for Ukraine.
