The iPhone is set to get a new feature that will automatically split bills based on a single photo of a receipt
Bloomberg reports on this.
Using a photo of the receipt, the system will automatically recognise purchases, allow individual items to be assigned to different people, and generate payment requests. The service will take into account not only the cost of goods but also taxes and tips.
The feature will work via the Messages and Wallet apps, and payments can even be confirmed from an Apple Watch. The option will also be integrated with the Apple Cash service for transferring funds between users.
The new iPhone feature could become a serious competitor to popular split-the-bill apps such as Splitwise, as well as services like PayPal and Cash App.
The new feature is expected to be unveiled as early as next week at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, and will subsequently be included in the updated version of iOS 27.
In addition, Apple is working on another update to Wallet — users will be able to create their own digital passes for events, gyms and other purposes.
As a reminder, it was previously reported that Apple will pay $250 million in compensation for advertising non-existent AI features in the iPhone.
