Rinat Akhmetov has been awarded the new ‘For the Defence of Human Rights’ honour
This was reported by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and the non-profit organisation ‘Heart of Azovstal’.
Who received the award
The first recipients of the new award were ten individuals and organisations that have contributed to the protection of human rights. Among them are the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Norwegian Refugee Council, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, and four Ukrainian entrepreneurs, including Rinat Akhmetov.
Natalia Yemchenko, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and the NGO ‘Heart of Azovstal’, noted that for the Foundation’s team, this award is recognition of their long-standing cooperation with the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine.
“It is a great honour for us to receive this award. Rinat Akhmetov’s ecosystem has been a reliable partner of the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine for four years now, as people, their rights and their value are at the heart of our business philosophy. This partnership enables us to develop systematic solutions that help people reclaim their rights, return to a full life and build a future,” she emphasised.
What projects are being implemented jointly with the Ombudsman’s Office
The Foundation noted that cooperation with the Office of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights has been ongoing for several years. In particular, joint initiatives focus on supporting the defenders of Mariupol, protecting the rights of prisoners of war and veterans, developing the ‘Voices of Civilians’ Museum, implementing the ‘Kateryna Savenko’s Diary’ project, as well as programmes to assist young people who have returned from the temporarily occupied territories or following deportation.
