The US has announced cuts to financial aid for Ukraine
This is reported by NOVYNI N, citing an interview the politician gave to Radio Free Europe.
No new multi-billion-dollar programmes expected in the US
According to Mast, Kyiv should not count on new large funding packages similar to previous aid programmes.
“You shouldn’t expect $60 billion, or $6 billion, or any other substantial sum,” the US congressman said.
At the same time, he emphasised that the US is not ceasing its support for Ukraine.
Washington will continue military and intelligence support
Brian Mast noted that the United States remains ready to provide Kyiv with other forms of assistance. This includes, in particular, the sale of weapons, the sharing of intelligence, and maintaining sanctions pressure on Russia. The Congressman also expressed the view that European states should play a greater role in supporting Ukraine, as the war is taking place on European soil.
“We are ready to act as mediators for peace. Europe must defend its own backyard,” he said.
The US is calling for tougher sanctions
Mast added that Washington’s sanctions policy must be more effective and inflict greater damage on the US’s adversaries. In his view, sanctions should not only weaken opponents but also bring strategic benefits to the United States itself and its allies.
