The US has conducted military exercises in Caracas
This is reported by *The Washington Post*
US Marines were involved in the exercises
During the exercises, two Osprey tiltrotor aircraft flew over the embassy grounds and landed in the diplomatic mission’s car park. After landing, US military personnel disembarked from the aircraft. The embassy stated that such exercises are part of maintaining readiness for rapid response to emergencies. The Venezuelan government noted that the exercises had been agreed in advance and were aimed at practising procedures in the event of medical or other emergencies.
The exercises took place after the embassy resumed operations
The manoeuvres took place almost two months after the US embassy in Caracas officially resumed operations. The diplomatic mission reopened following the restoration of full diplomatic relations between the two countries. The head of US Southern Command, Marine Corps General Francis Donovan, personally observed the exercises and held meetings with representatives of the Venezuelan authorities and embassy staff. However, the exercises provoked a mixed reaction in Caracas. Some local residents watched the military aircraft fly overhead, whilst others took to the streets to protest against the presence of US troops.
