Thunderstorms, hail and squalls are set to hit Ukraine on 21 May 2026

Weather on Vyshyvanka Day
On Thursday, 21 May, the weather in Ukraine will be changeable. Stable warm weather will give way to a thunderstorm front bringing localised downpours, hail and gusty winds.
According to forecaster Natalka Didenko, periodic thunderstorms are possible in most regions on Vyshyvanka Day.
Dry weather will persist only in the north-east – in the Sumy, Kharkiv and Luhansk regions.
Temperatures across Ukraine
In most regions, daytime temperatures are expected to range from +21 to +26 degrees.
It will be warmer on the Left Bank – from +24 to +29 degrees.
Cooler weather is forecast for the western regions. Temperatures there will range from +18 to +22 degrees.
Hazardous conditions in Cherkasy region
According to Vitalii Postrygan, head of the Cherkasy Hydrometeorological Centre, the weather situation in the region will remain unstable.
As the region lies on the boundary of unstable weather, thunderstorms will intensify again during the daytime warming period.
Dangerous weather conditions are possible in the region, including gusty winds of up to 17–22 m/s and localised hail.
Night-time temperatures in the Cherkasy region will range from +13 to +18 degrees, and daytime temperatures from +23 to +28 degrees.
What the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre says
The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre notes that on 21 May, the weather in Ukraine will be determined by a low-pressure system.
It is approaching from the south and south-east.
As a result, variable cloud cover and unsettled summer weather are expected across the country.
