Tragedy in Kyiv: three family members killed by a generator in an apartment
A fatal tragedy has occurred in the Desnianskyi district of Kyiv: a 30-year-old woman and her elderly parents died of carbon monoxide poisoning in their apartment. The cause was the improper use of a generator.
According to Kyiv police, law enforcement officers began an investigation after a report of a young woman's disappearance. In the course of search operations, they arrived at her parents' home in the Lesnoyi Massif, where they found the bodies of all three without signs of life.
It turned out that the woman had come to visit her parents and stayed overnight. The apartment had a generator connected to a gas cylinder. The device was located on the balcony, but the door to the room where people were staying was open. This led to a rapid accumulation of carbon monoxide in the apartment.
A forensic examination confirmed that the cause of death was acute carbon monoxide poisoning. A criminal investigation was opened into the incident with the classification of an accident.
The police reiterate that carbon monoxide is particularly dangerous as it is odourless and colourless and can lead to death in minutes. Generators and fuel equipment may only be used outdoors in compliance with all safety rules.
