Trump considers the war against Iran to be ‘almost over’

US President Donald Trump has stated that he considers the US-Israeli operation against Iran to be ‘almost complete’.

He made these remarks in an interview with Fox News, an excerpt of which was published by journalist Maria Bartiromo.

In the published video, Trump says he had to shift the focus, because otherwise Iran would have had nuclear weapons and ‘you’d be calling everyone there “sir”’.

The journalist asked Trump: “You keep speaking in the past tense. Is this war over?” To which he replied: “I think it’s almost over. Yes. I think it’s very close to being over.”

Trump recently announced the possible resumption of talks with Iran in Pakistan following another round of escalating rhetoric between the sides.

US-Iran talks: what we know

On 11–12 April, senior representatives from the US and Iran held 21 hours of talks, but the meeting ended without an agreement being reached. US Vice-President J.D. Vance stated that the Iranians had rejected Washington’s demand regarding the development of nuclear weapons.

Following the meeting, US President Donald Trump suddenly announced that the US Navy would begin blocking all vessels attempting to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) has already announced that the naval blockade will begin at 17:00 on 13 April (Kyiv time) and ‘will be applied impartially to vessels of all nations entering or leaving Iranian ports and coastal areas’.

In response, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that “Americans will soon look back nostalgically on petrol at $4–5.”
