In April, Russia carried out a record number of drone attacks on Ukraine – over 6,660
In April, Russia carried out at least 6,804 attacks using long-range drones and missiles on Ukrainian territory. These figures were released by the Ukrainian Air Force, according to ABC News.
According to the report, 6,663 drones and 141 missiles were recorded during the month. Ukrainian air defences intercepted or neutralised nearly 88 per cent of the drones and over 62 per cent of the missiles.
The average was around 222 drones and four missiles per day.
These figures exceeded the previous record set in March, when Russia deployed a total of 6,600 munitions, of which 6,462 were drones and 138 were missiles.
The largest attack in April took place on the night of 15 April. On that occasion, 703 munitions were launched, including 659 drones and 44 missiles. According to Ukrainian officials, at least 19 people were killed as a result of this attack.
Despite a brief Easter truce, during which no attacks were recorded on 12 April, the overall intensity of strikes remained high.
The exchange of drone and missile strikes remains one of the key elements of the war. Both sides claim to have struck military, energy or industrial targets, whilst accusing each other of targeting civilian infrastructure.
The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that over 4,700 Ukrainian drones were shot down in April.
According to UN estimates, the number of civilian casualties is rising. In March, 211 deaths and 1,206 injuries were recorded, a 49 per cent increase compared to February. In total, at least 15,578 civilians have been killed since February 2022.
There have also been reports of casualties resulting from drone attacks on Russian territory, particularly in the Belgorod and Kursk regions.
There have been recorded instances of airspace violations by neighbouring states, including Romania, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, as well as Moldova.
