In Lviv, a man armed with a knife took a child hostage

What happened in Lviv
The incident took place on 9 May at around 4.30 pm on Kavaleridze Street. According to the police, a man, upon seeing members of the Territorial Defence Forces, sprayed tear gas, then grabbed a girl who was passing by and held a knife to her throat.
The girl was freed within minutes
A police officer, together with TCC servicemen, swiftly detained the attacker and freed the child. The 13-year-old girl from Lviv was unharmed; there is no threat to her life or health.
Law enforcement officers identified the perpetrator. He turned out to be a 43-year-old resident of Lviv. The man was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
What case has been opened
Investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — unlawful deprivation of liberty or abduction. The penalty under this article provides for restriction or deprivation of liberty for a term of up to five years. A pre-trial investigation is currently underway. The issue of notifying the detainee of the charges against him is also being decided.
