In Russia, an attempt was made to assassinate a general linked to the killings in Bucha
This has been reported by InformNapalm.
On 28 April, an attempt was made to blow up Major General Azatbek Omurbekov at a military garrison in the village of Knyaze-Volkonskoye-1 in the Khabarovsk Krai of the Russian Federation.
According to media reports, the explosive device was placed in a postbox in the stairwell of a residential building.
Lieutenant Colonel Kuzmenko, commander of the communications training battalion, was killed in the explosion.
Several other people were injured.
Omurbekov’s condition is currently unknown.
InformNapalm claims that attempts are being made to cover up the incident.
In 2022, Azatbek Omurbekov commanded the Russian Army’s 64th Separate Motorised Rifle Brigade.
It is this brigade that is linked to war crimes against civilians during the occupation of Bucha and Andriivka in the Kyiv region.
Omurbekov is known as the “Butcher of Bucha” due to his alleged involvement in the mass killings of Ukrainians in the spring of 2022.
He is subject to sanctions imposed by the UK, the EU and the US.
In April 2022, Vladimir Putin awarded the 64th Separate Motorised Rifle Brigade the title of ‘Guards’.
The Kremlin attributed this to the “mass heroism and bravery, resilience and courage” allegedly displayed by the personnel during combat operations.
Omurbekov was subsequently awarded the Star of the Hero of Russia.
He was promoted to the rank of Major General in June 2025.
InformNapalm reports that it identified Omurbekov as early as April 2022.
He was subsequently added to the sanctions lists of a number of countries.
Omurbekov also features on InformNapalm’s list of war criminals subject to punishment.
The project also noted that it has recent photos of Omurbekov taken on the eve of the assassination attempt during public events.
They speculated that if he does not appear at public events on 9 May, this could indicate that he has been wounded.
The Russian authorities have not officially reported on the incident.
As reported by ThePublic, Prince Harry visited Bucha and paid tribute to the victims
