The Pecherskyi District Court in Kyiv has sentenced a resident of Kryvyi Rih to six years’ imprisonment after finding him guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman. Following the pronouncement of the sentence, the man was taken into custody right in the courtroom.

This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office. A court

in Kyiv has handed down a sentence to a man from Kryvyi Rih in a case involving the rape of a 19-year-old woman. According to the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, he was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 153 and Part 2 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced to six years’ imprisonment.

This refers to a ruling by the Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv. Immediately after the sentence was handed down, the convicted man was taken into custody in the courtroom.

The prosecutor’s office notes that the crime took place in May 2016 in the Holosiivskyi district of the capital. According to the prosecution, late in the evening the man attacked the girl as she was walking home along Naberezhno-Pecherska Road.

Prosecutors proved in court that the attacker approached the victim from behind, threw a jacket over her face, dragged her by force to the railway tracks, where he raped her twice.

According to the prosecution, during the attack he threatened to kill the girl if she screamed or resisted.

At the time of the crime, the man was 53 years old. In Kyiv, he is said to have worked unofficially as a builder.

In court, the defendant did not admit guilt. He claimed that he had been falsely accused because he had previously served two prison sentences for rape.

The pre-trial investigation into the case was conducted by investigators from the Holosiivskyi District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv. The public prosecution in court was supported by prosecutors from the Holosiivskyi District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv.
